I have given Mossberg an honest endeavor severl times. They accept a neat concept for a turkey gun merely the execution is crap. They're junk pure and simple. Y'all'll go a couple guys on here to tell you how great theirs is, and they may be, just they got lucky. The guns are crap. Spend the money to get your BPS trigger worked on or save it longer and buy gun you like amend. | Re: Mossberg 500 grand slam turkey gun [Re: tzone] #8775372 04/xiii/14 | Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: ii,353 natman Campfire Ranger | Bivouac Ranger Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: ii,353 | Straight out of the box Mossbergs are slightly rough only I wouldn't go and so far as to call them "crap". If you lot know which end of an Arkansas stone to use you tin can get them running smoothly in about half an 60 minutes with a bit of judicious polishing. In one case this is done they are quite polish and reliable. | Re: Mossberg 500 grand slam turkey gun [Re: natman] #8775593 04/13/14 | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 32,044 bea175 Campfire Oracle | Campfire Oracle Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 32,044 | Mossbergs are the Welfare Mans Shotgun A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to practice that for Two Bucks. | Re: Mossberg 500 grand slam turkey gun [Re: natman] #8776231 04/xiii/14 | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 43,891 tzone Campfire Oracle | Bivouac Oracle Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 43,891 | Straight out of the box Mossbergs are slightly crude but I wouldn't go and then far every bit to telephone call them "crap". Once this is washed they are quite smooth and reliable. Polish maybe, simply I'd not call any I've owned reliable or I'd nevertheless have em. | Re: Mossberg 500 grand slam turkey gun [Re: tzone] #8783052 04/16/14 | Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: two,353 natman Campfire Ranger | Bivouac Ranger Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 2,353 | Smooth maybe, just I'd not phone call whatsoever I've owned reliable or I'd yet have em. I accept 4 at the moment. I've used one for my turkey gun for the final 27 years. The only problem I've had with any of them is one fourth dimension the wooden dowel used as a magazine plug got tangled in the magazine jump which turned it into a unmarried shot. A slight bevel on the ends of the dowel cured that. YMMV. | Re: Mossberg 500 thou slam turkey gun [Re: natman] #8784757 04/xvi/14 | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: vi,881 ldholton Campfire Tracker | Campfire Tracker Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: half dozen,881 | I have two , 500 & 835 with scopes gear up up just for turkeys , with the scopes and padded bank check pieces they fill more than "rifle " like and the triggers are worked down to 4# simply in doing this one must also re work and ready the safety so it properly works. Not certain if this can be done on the newest models , mine are well-nigh 12-fourteen years old | Re: Mossberg 500 grand slam turkey gun [Re: ldholton] #8785673 04/17/14 | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 6,327 TheKid Bivouac Tracker | Bivouac Tracker Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 6,327 | Just an thought for everyone wanting to fool around with a dedicated turkey gun for not many $$$. Deadliest scattergun I've ever used for gobblers is a $75 mossberg commodities action pawnshop find. It came from the manufacturing plant with a front and rear sight, poly asphyxiate, and sling swivels. Went and cut some leaves to trace stencils out and gave it a OD greenish base of operations coat with leaf pattern over sprayed in ii more flat colors. And replaced the front bead on the ramp with a fiber optic. It isn't pretty and information technology kicks like a mule, just information technology was cheap and the darn things are pretty useless for wing shooting, and so this was a pretty good use for it. The C-lect choke, equally Mossberg called it, is nice for pattering as information technology'south instantly adjustable for testing loads and can be screwed down to extra full if the pattern will hold. Mine has Uncle Mikes way QD swivel studs then I just rob a sling off ane of my rifles when spring rolls around. It only weighs about 6 i/ii pounds and I don't care if I scratch it upward so it's perfect for runnin an gunnin. Inexpensive winter project thought anyways. | | | |
